MANAGEMENT & REPORTING STRUCTURE Reports directly to District Asset Protection Manager (DAPM). May mentor and train Asset Protection Agents.
POSITION DESCRIPTION The Area Agent is a full time, non exempt (hourly) position. The Area Agent is expected to be the leader and back bone of the AP teams’ efforts in internal and external investigations. The Area Agent will also assist the DAPM in auditing the store’s operational execution. May be responsible for three or more stores with minimal travel needed within the district.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES •Monitors sales floor for theft activities. •Apprehends shoplifters. •Monitors point of sale area to identify fraudulent internal or external theft/fraud. •Initiates and investigates dishonest activities utilizing all available systems and resources. •Resolves internal investigations utilizing interviewing/interrogations techniques. •Investigates policy violations as directed by the DAPM. •Partner with local law enforcement agencies and officers. •Represent The Sports Authority in criminal court cases. •Educates store staff and management in theft prevention methods. •Assists store management with inventory preparation. •Observes and reports operational procedure compliance and loss indicators. •Assists in training new Asset Protection associates. •Train and educate associates in causes of loss, resources to combat loss, and operational procedure compliance •Interact daily with store associates and management •Responsible for other duties as assigned or developed. •Analyze developing events with a sense of urgency and implement correct course of action. •Maintains a high level of integrity as it pertains to the position and keeps all information confidential as it regards to sensitive case information. •Validates execution of all operational control issues (i.e. EAS tagging/placement, fitting rooms, front and back end policies and procedures). •Inspect Asset Protection equipment and systems (Electronic Article Surveillance, closed circuit television, locks, physical security, etc.) Notify DAPM for work order requests. •Maintains accurate Asset protection records as required. Complete all Asset Protection Reports in a timely manner and distribute them to all appropriate parties. •Follow company apprehension policies and procedures designed for shoplifters. •Identify organized retail crime groups and communicate to the DAPM for resolution. •Completes audits and Asset Protection Checklists. •Manage mileage reports. •Time clock management and accountability. •Conducting periodic cycle counts and inventory analysis
PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS •Two to four years experience in Asset Protection in a retail environment •Preferred, but not necessary, degree in criminal justice / law enforcement or equivalent relevant experience. •Formal interview training (Wicklander-Zulawski, Reid) preferred. •Preferred, but not necessary, experience in using personal computers (Windows, AS400, exception based reporting. •Solid understanding of writing standard documentation using established formats •Standard retail Asset Protection environment interaction. •A strong work ethic, individual initiative, dependability and flexibility in schedule is required. •Ability to write standard documentation and case incidents using established report writing format. •At ease interviewing or discussing detailed information, frequently involving internal and external problems or issues. •Be able to give direction.
